Nitro Trainer Update…

Webmaster Eric now has a trainer with a Buddy-Box!

Eric will be out at the field before 8AM on Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays, as often as possible. Come on out if you’d like to try the Hobbico SuperStar 40 trainer on the Buddy-Box. It weighs just Eric is offering to fly Buddy-Box with you so you can experience the Hobbico SuperStar 40 as a Nitro RC trainer.about six pounds when fueled-up and ready for take-off, and she flies like a heavy-weight trainer… unless, that is, you want to crank-up that old O.S. 46FX (with an APC 10-7) to full throttle, switch-on high-rates and go vertical with it… that “trainer” can do it ALL! (Can’t make it fly an Outside Loop, yet… but rolls, spins, snap-rolls, inverted-flight… “Yes!”)… The model floats in for a gentle landing (even if dead-stick) at about two or three-times the airspeed of a “foamie” trainer… (that’s like two or three times faster than my old Kadet, too!)

The Buddy-Box is a nice old 4-channel Futaba Skysport radio that Montana Bob came up with for me. It was a 9-volt radio and MY radio is a modern 6-volt… so the Low Battery light blinks on the Skysport radio, but it functions just fine as the slave unit.

My goal in all of this is to let our many new pilots (who have only ever flown their foamies) have a chance to feel the heft, speed and momentum (and the smoke, noise and danger!) of flying a heavier than air (heavier-than-foam) nitro model.  … Send me an email or call my home number to confirm an appointment, or just show up while I am out there… glad to fly with you , anytime.
