The usual gang of suspects... at the field for the first flights from our Aux. Field #1.The usual gang of suspects were out at the field this morning to make the first flights… MT Bob, Jon, Eric, Lloyd and Paul Smith. Eric was quick on the draw and had his Kadet in the air as the official “first flight”!

It was a beautiful morning but, even at the early hour of 8 AM, the wind was starting to build! It proved to be variable and gusty… jumping from “no breeze at all” to what must have been12- or 15-mph gusts…. great flying weather for the Kadet but tough on those electric foamies!

Lloyd had brought his tundra-tired foamie and his new kit-built Cub (dressed not in Cub yellow… but LEMON yellow… a beautiful little model!) Jon's electric flew great... until he ran out of fresh batteries! He flew his foamie first… and… after a few minutes, it fell from the sky! C R A S H ! … it simply dropped, out of control. We never did figure out “why?”, so he decided NOT to Maiden Flight his new Cub today!

Eric and Jon continued flying… getting in several nice flights, each. Sadly, Jon used-up all of his batteries and had to stand down and watch as that red Kadet flew flight after flight on nitro fuel.

Except for that crash, it was a really nice day, out there.

SAFETY NOTE:
Nitro model pilots need a helper or wheel chocks when started on the bare ground!Without flightstands, NITRO MODEL PILOTS need to have a HELPER or a set of wheel chocks, of some type, so as to restrain the model as the pilot starts the motor with the plane sitting on the bare ground. I first started that Kadet without such restraint and I found it awkward to start the motor, hold the starter, and hold the model to keep it (and me) safe as I started the motor.

I had the plastic pieces you see in that picture in the back of my truck and they worked GREAT as wheel chocks for that plane.

First flights on our Aux. Field #1… Awesome!

Come out and fly with the Kingman Golden Eagles RC Club!
